Making a Difference
On Saturday, July 10, the Thrasher Basement Systems and Foundation Supportworks team had an opportunity to give back to the community. Over 25 employees and members of their families took part in an effort to restore stability to a local homeowners foundation as well as install waterproofing along the perimeter of her basement. This effort, organized by Rebuilding Together (an organization determined to keep low-income elderly and low-income disabled homeowners warm, safe, dry and independent in their own homes) was one the Thrasher/FSI team will never forget.
The homeowner, Annie Clark, was originally from Arkansas. She moved to Omaha in 1960 and has lived in her home for 49 years. Annie has had over 100 foster kids (ranging in age from two months to 18 years old) in and out of her home. "I love this home, at my age I plan on living here the rest of my life." With the help of Thrasher Basement Systems and Foundation Supportworks, Annie will be able to do just that. After installing 10 anchors to stabilize the bowing walls in her basement, waterproofing her entire basement and putting in a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to eliminate the mold, Annie is confident that her respiratory problems will disappear.
"I'm really thankful to Thrasher, wonderful people and I'm so glad that they came into my home and did all this good work. I hope to breath much better with all the work and the dehumidifier that will take out all the wetness and keep my basement dry. And I can live much healthier, a healthier life the rest of my days here." As of the date of this story, Annie already notices an improvement in her breathing and health.
The work that was done affected more than just Annie. In one way or another, many Thrasher/FSI team members were just as touched.
"I really enjoyed coming out this weekend and helping out Annie with this project, it was a good time to be with the group and company that you don't always get to work together, to build some camaraderie outside of the office as well as doing something we are all unified on." - Les
"It's nice to give back to help someone out and then also to get everyone together as a team and be able to give to someone and work together. We have people here from the office, we have people here from the crews... it was a lot of fun!" - Nick
One of Thrasher/FSI core values is outreach - enriching the lives of our employees, the community and the nation with the blessings we've been given. Repairing Annie's home was the perfect way to live out this value.
